TAPE BAKING STICKY SHED SYNDROME
Tape baking: Some tapes may require baking to remove moisture caused by Sticky Shed Syndrome. This is usually experienced with U-matic tapes and associated due to a breakdown in the glue (binder) that holds the oxide atoms onto the tape. Typical signs are squealing as the tape passes through the head. Without baking this will transmit through the ouput and will damage the tape and/or players.
