Ephemera Collection Digitisation in Oxford
Professional scanning of tickets, postcards, posters, programmes, menus and other paper ephemera
We create digital preservation copies of ephemera collections so that valuable printed and paper material can be preserved, accessed and researched without unnecessary handling of the originals.
Ephemera collections can include tickets, postcards, posters, programmes, menus, newspapers, sheet music, greeting cards, advertising material and other printed items. We can digitise both personal collections and larger heritage, museum, institutional and corporate archives.
WHAT IS EPHEMERA?
Ephemera are generally printed or paper-based items intended for short-term use. Once preserved, they can provide an important record of everyday life, local history, organisations, events, music, advertising and popular culture.
- Tickets and ticket stubs
- Postcards and greeting cards
- Posters, leaflets and programmes
- Menus and advertising material
- Newspapers and newspaper cuttings
- Sheet music and printed cultural material
- Stickers and other small-format printed items
- Mixed paper collections containing multiple formats
EPHEMERA COLLECTION DIGITISATION
Mixed collections often require more than a standard document-scanning workflow. We can discuss preparation, handling, image capture, file naming and the digital output required for your project.
Where appropriate, items can be captured in colour at high resolution so that photographs, typography, handwritten annotations and fine printed detail are retained. Digital files can be prepared for online access, research, catalogue systems or long-term archive storage.
HERITAGE & COMMUNITY COLLECTIONS
Our ephemera work includes heritage and community collections such as posters, documents and historical source material. We have worked with collections associated with the Jam Collection, Wandsworth Museum and the Kidlington and District Historical Society.
DOCUMENT SCANNING & DIGITAL OUTPUTS
Depending on the collection, we can supply high-quality TIFF, JPEG or PDF files, with OCR where printed text is suitable for recognition. File naming, folder structures and other project-specific requirements can be agreed before scanning begins.
