Oversized Artwork Scanning

Oversized artwork, maps, plans and posters require a capture system capable of recording the entire object without unsafe handling.

Large originals can be difficult to support and may be too large for conventional flatbeds. Wide-format scanning or a reprographic camera setup can provide appropriate alternatives.

Standards context: The National Archives lists large-scale documents and oversized items among specialist digitisation work. citeturn0search3

Oversized artwork digitisation

The capture method should be selected around the original object, its condition and the purpose of the digital master. Suitable material may be captured with a WideTEK 36 ART, reprographic camera system or flatbed solution, while delicate, oversized or surface-sensitive work may require a non-contact approach.
